Hangover science
A hangover is four problems wearing one name, and an infusion reaches two of them properly, one partially, and one not at all. Knowing which is which is the difference between a purchase that does what you expected and one that disappoints you at eleven in the morning.
The four parts
First, fluid loss. Alcohol suppresses the hormone that tells your kidneys to hold water, so you lose volume and the salts dissolved in it. This is the part an infusion handles completely and quickly, and it accounts for a good deal of the headache and the flatness.
Second, inflammation and the breakdown products your liver is still processing. Anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea medications added to a line address those symptoms directly, which is partial rather than complete relief but it is real.
Third, disrupted sleep. Alcohol wrecks sleep architecture even when you were unconscious for eight hours, and nothing in any bag touches that. Fourth, low blood sugar, which food fixes. See the hangover drip. Worth reading next: iv therapy guides and athletes and iv recovery.
What helps
The volume and the salts are the fastest thing to correct and most people notice it while the bag is still running. If you feel better before it finishes, this is why.
Where an anti-nausea medication is approved and added, it often acts within the hour. It is also what lets people start eating and drinking normally again, which matters more than it sounds.
Partly fluid, partly inflammation, partly the sleep. It typically lags the other two and does not always clear completely, which is worth expecting rather than being surprised by.
That is the sleep debt and it is not something an infusion addresses. Food, water and an early night do more for it than anything on a menu.
Honest advice
Drinking water with salts, eating something, and sleeping. Those three cover most of a hangover for most people, and a provider that does not say so is not being straight with you. An infusion is faster and more complete for the fluid part, which is a convenience purchase rather than a necessity.
Where it stops being a convenience is when you cannot keep fluids down at all, or you have something that afternoon you genuinely cannot move. Those are the two honest reasons to book rather than drink.

Would probably have been fine with water and a nap. I did not have time for a nap.

Fluid and nausea, quickly. Sleep debt, not at all. If that is the trade you want, a nurse can be with you inside the morning.
